A RARE AND LARGE ICON SHOWING 'CHRIST ONLY BEGOTTEN SON' Russian, Old Believer's Workshop, 19th century Tempera on wood panel. The background and border made of gold. This icon illustrates the second antiphon of the Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom which begins 'Only Begotten Son and Word of God'. Godfather at the top. Two flying angels with the sun and the moon at his sides. Christ in a circle supported by angels below. 'Dont weep for me mother' below. At the left and right side two standing angels. Below the overcoming over death, an angel who is punching the devil and the death riding on a horse at the left. Minor losses. 43.8 x 38 cm. SELTENE UND GROSSE IKONE MIT CHRISTUS 'EINGEBORENER SOHN GOTTES' Russland, Altgläubigen-Werkstatt, 19. Jh. Verbund zweier Bretter mit zwei Rückseiten-Sponki (verloren). Eitempera auf Kreidegrund, Goldgrund, Rand vergoldet. 43,8 x 38 cm. Der Titel stammt aus der Liturgie des Heiligen Johannes Chrysostoms. Im oberen Bildfeld ist Gottvater umgeben von zwei Engeln dargestellt. Darunter erscheint Christus in einer Aureole, die von zwei Engeln gehalten wird. Darunter Christus im Grabe und die trauernde Gottesmutter (Weine nicht um mich, Mutter). An den Seiten erscheinen oben jeweils ein Engel vor einer Architekturkulisse, darunter ist die Überwindung des Todes dargestellt. Min. Farbabsplitterungen.
