MARTA CÁRDENAS (San Sebastián, 1944).

MARTA CÁRDENAS (San Sebastián, 1944). Untitled, 1982. Pastel on paper (diptych). Presents label on the back. Signed and dated on the lower right side. Measurements: 22 x 36 cm; 20 x 36,5 cm 65 x 57 cm (frame). After studying at the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid and in Paris, in 1970, Marta Cardenas first presented her work in San Sebastian and exhibited in the Basque Country in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1995, on the other hand, an anthological exhibition of drawings was held at the Bilbao BBK Exhibition Hall. Marta Cardenas has traditionally used everyday techniques, mainly in her landscapes, painted in her studio, but also outdoors. Since 1980, her painting has become increasingly abstract, inspired by reality. In 2000, she completed her last course of abstraction with works made in India, where she exhibited at the 16th gallery of San Sebastian, her first completely abstract exhibition based on observations made during the trip and not on the subject itself. Marta Cardenas, married to the composer Luis de Pablo, currently lives in Madrid. In 2016, a retrospective exhibition of Marta Cárdenas entitled Abre los ojos (Open your eyes) was organized at the Sala Kubo of the Kursaal in Donostia-San Sebastián. The curator was Alfonso de la Torre and it was organized around two areas: "Inside" and "Outside", alluding to her interior and exterior paintings or inspired by other geographical areas.
