LUIS FEGA (Asturias, 1952)

LUIS FEGA (Asturias, 1952) Untitled, 2000. Acrylic on canvas. Signed and titled. Measurements: 61 x 46 cm; 78 x 63 cm (frame). Considered one of the best Spanish artists of his generation, Luis Fega (Asturias, 1952) continues to explore with unusual energy the mysteries of the sublimation of color and the strength of the gestures that furrow his canvases, collages or assemblages. Admired by critics and collectors, he has been part of important international reference collectives and today continues to concentrate in his workshop alternating transparencies and synthesis of spaces, under that almost innate action of painting that treasures landscape roots and geometric games that assume art as an exploration as aesthetic as well as ethical. He is an author who longs for plastic sublimation and emotions through broad strokes that tear the support, developing glazes on backgrounds that simulate extensive tidal waves, works possible when there is a full balance between will and commitment, between the poetic dimension and that something more unpredictable that disturbs us. Self-taught, he exhibited for the first time in 1976 at the Círculo Mercantil in Santiago de Compostela. In 1983 he obtained a grant for young artists from the Ministry of Culture and in 1987 another from the Principality of Asturias. The subject matter of his work is very varied: from landscapes, mainly from the north and center of Spain, to mythological scenes. From sober forms and a muted chromatism, Fega has evolved towards compositions of ochre tones and a greater formal purification. He has participated in several editions of Arco (1988, 1990 and 1991) as well as in numerous group exhibitions, including the "VI Salón de los 16" (1986) at the Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art.
